I have always been totally interested in ghosts. I've just found the idea of the creepy and unkown satisfying and fascinating. I always believed, to an extent were somewere in conversation I'd have to admit, although I do believe, I also understand that there probably arent any.

Also know the besides the millions upon millions ghosts books Ive started and finished and the millions of ghost shows I've watched, not to mention some research on the matter through the internet, Ive never actually had any hand-on experience with a ghostly ecounter...Up until just recently that is.

My one freind, Mary, was telling me about her freinds real haunted house during classes one day. She told me many horrifying stories about the house. She said not much happened in the day, but at night the house went crazy. Let me tell you, I believed from my freind from the start. She is an offbeat kind of girl and I did believe that this was a real place. She told me that once while she was staying late into the night at her freind, Kens, house, they were camping outside when things started to go arriye. Apparently, the backyard is totally overgrown and has the stentch of rotting corpses since Kens dog is always realesing stool in the backyard but nobody bothers to clean it up. (Ewww, I know!!!) Anyway, so she told me that you can literally see lights in the bushes. She said you can hear feet walking around, rustling, and sounds of a deep male voice talking. She also told me that her most horrifying experience that night was when she entered into the dark, dingy old garage, and literally, before her the head of a man with no body formed, with seemingly a huge nail going through the head pinning it to the well. Apparently, the head itself was one of the most hideos things ever seen. She admitted it wasnt actually there, but for whatever reason the mind forms it.

I, who was so enticed and interested bye the story told my freind I only must see the house. I knew of Ken, but not well enough. So, my freind Mary introduced us, and he seemed like a genuinly nice person. Mary also let her know I was simply dieing to see the house.

And, so, one night, after I'd begged my parents to break their stupid ten o'clock curfew, I ventured out into the night.

The house itself was creepy enough, and strange noises were everywere, but somehow It didnt convince enough but the moment we walked into her yard of old, overgrown weeds and tress and bushes and shrubs the horror started. It began with the stink of rotting corpse, and as we walked we could literally hear feet following us. We saw lights every know and then, sharp, thing quick lights. Uusually just bright, sometimes red. Once of the scariest things was the hand through the tree. When we were sitting in a little clearing we shown our flashlight to a noise and literally saw a hand in the brush of weeds. We screamed and the light shook but it remained until we turned it off and ran in the house. It was real and horrifying!

But, like my freind told me, the scariest experience was the garage. I went in alone. The garage just didnt feel right. It wasnt anything exactly, but you could tell bye the way your stomack twisted and knotted itself up. Suddenly, the a head stuck to the wall bye a giant nail grostescly formed infront of me. The male head had long, black, hair, a twisted and demented face, swollen looking, one eye actually missing with just skin covering the hole, and blood and dirt smudged across the face. The horrid appearence happened rather fast, actually, and I started screaming as high as I could, with no shame, and ran out. Ken, is convinced its the spirits making it form in your mind, but for some reason she doubts it really forms their, although all her freinds shes brought to her house see it. Interesting I feel, and makes the story more believable.

But the most horrifying part was not that. Yes, the sent me into temporary shock I will admit, but the most bone chilling part was the man talking.

The only thing that happened in her house happened on her patio. As the night grew later and things were beginging to wrap up we talked off the horrifying nights experiences. Just, in the middle of our conversation a man started talking from noplace. Literally, faintly, but clearly we heard a mans voice talking, almost as if to himself.

I tell you, when my parents called to bother me about coming home, I didnt put up a fight!

It was such a horrifying experience, and although it still creeps me out, I find it interesting!

Any ideas of this event, what the spirits could be?

Hi Ghostguy,

There are several possibilities regarding you and your friends' experiences. I tend to approach any type of unexplained phenomenon from a somewhat skeptical point of view. I don't doubt you and your friends had some unsettling experiences; but I try to find logical explanations first.

1. The stench of rotting corpses -- If the backyard of this house is overgrown and dog poop is a problem, that could be the explanation. Also keep in mind, dogs are predatory critters. The family pet may have killed a rodent, birds, etc...Even the corpse of a small animal can cause a horrible smell if it is left. If the family's garbage cans are stored in the backyard, they may be the culprit of the smell.

2. The headless apparition -- Human beings are open to suggestion. Have you ever seen a picture with something hidden in it? If a friend looks at the picture and says, "hey, can you see the cat in this picture", the first thing you're going to do is search for an image of a cat. This could have been a similar situation with you. When your friend told you her experience, it led you to have some expectations of seeing something similar. A dark night, a spooky house and some great ghost stories about the place, it would be easy for anyone's mind to get a little carried away.

3. The man's voice talking -- Sounds carry. Could this have been a neighbor on his phone, the television, someone talking out on the street, etc...? I live out in the boondocks, our nearest neighbor is about 1/4 mile away. I've looked out my window, thinking I've heard a car pull into the driveway, only to find out it was at the neighbor's house.

If you are really interested in the place, I'd encourage you and your friends to do a little investigating. See what you can find out about the property. Talk to older people in the neighborhood to find out what was around before the houses were built. Check out the local library to see if the house was connected in some way with some historical event or crime. Take some pictures, get out your tape recorders and try to get some EVP's. Always look for the logical explanation first. Then, if you can't find one, start looking at the possibility of something paranormal. [Wink]

Normally if I read something such as a possible haunting, I get some kind of feeling or thought from it. I get nothing this time. I agree with Carrie, do some research on the place and see if anything happened on the property.

The backyard is overgrown so you might be seeing animal eyes (yes, they are red when looking your way) such as deer. As for the garage, the mind is a very complex thing and can give you any image you think you want to see. Like Carrie said, voices carry and if the house is large, even on a patio, if someone is talking inside then it will carry.

I'm not saying there isn't any paranormal things going on, but I get nothing about it.
Research to find the answers, the history is out there.

The home I lived in Florida had a couple of spirits. One was a man wearing tan slacks and a red and white striped sweater. He looked very real, except if you tried to get to close he disappeared. The other was a woman. She was dressed in what looked like 19th century clothing. You could see right through her. She wore a long dress with a high collar. Her hair was also pulled up in a bun. You could hear her petticoats rustling when she "walked" by. She was very fascinated with the TV. The man just hung around. Neither of them bothered me at all. They seemed to be very nice.

I moved back north and I have seen one spirit in the house so far.

The home my ex husband grew up in is a different story. You could walk into the house and the darkest feeling would come over you. It was very oppresive feeling. It gives me the chills thinking about it.
